I'll Scream Later

I'm currently reading "I'll Scream Later" by Marlee Matlin. Mind you I absolutely love this woman she is so inspirational, beautiful, talented, and brave. She was the youngest woman to win a Best Actress Oscar for the movie "Children of a Lesser God". She's deaf and I actually read it because we have to read a book having to do with Deafness for my American Sign Language class. I had my choice and I immediately picked her book. This book is basically an autobiography about her struggles and her successes and how they have turned her into the phenomenal woman she is today. Its very interesting because she starts the book off explaining her trip to a rehab center for her growing addiction of marijuana and cocaine. Then she zooms back in time to her childhood and how her family and herself dealt with her deafness at a young age. And then she goes on to talk about how she experienced acting at a young age and how it made her realized that that is what she wanted to do. My personal reaction to the reading I did was excitement because I couldn't wait to see what happened after the next page and shock learning about her obstacles and how she faced them heads on at such a young age. I think she wants her readers to understand where shes coming from and go on a journey to her past and experience her life with her. I noticed she used chronological order and spatial organization.  I stopped reading from there and I haven't have time to read anymore because of midterms but now its winter break and I'm ready to plunge back into Marlee's life.
